You have been diagnosed with cancer of some kind and you now want to know what to do. Now, you are ready to do anything you are asked. Before this terrible diagnosis you would not do anything you were asked. Your lifestyle was your lifestyle and that was that. You were not going to change it for anyone. Now, with the dreaded fear of death hanging over you like a misty pall over the spring meadow, you are ready to do anything, ANYTHING at all to get rid of this..... this thing that you have.
A cancer diagnosis is NOT the feared thing it was in the past. Many people survive a long long time after a cancer diagnosis.
Unfortunately, the tissues in our body have only so much capacity to recover form damage. They get to a point of no return. When they are at that point, you need more than just good living behaviours. Yes, good living behaviours will help the rest of the tissue stay healthy. But, the diseased tissue needs to be dealt with by heroic means. This is where the medical establishment is helpful, so listen to them. Take their advice. But, beware that they are the experts at cutting out diseased tissue. They are not expert at preventing the disease in the first place. They like to think they are, but that is just because they think they are the best at everything. They are decades behind other health care providers when it comes to prevention and they have a specific model of disease that they stay within.
The advice contained herein is not medical advice nor a treatment for cancer. It is not a method to kill cancer cells. Standard well researched medical advice is where you should look for that type of care.
What our advice will do for you is help your body keep its remaining cells strong. Thisadvice will help your body ‘unplug’ itself and begin to function the way it was intended to. Yes some foods

have had some media attention for containing compounds that help reduce tumours, but many have not been researched adequately, to my knowledge, on clinical cancer. We are awaiting research on foods and disease as the scientific community and the cancer societies have finally acknowledged, some years ago I might add, that foods can have an affect on cancer.
Friends and family should remember that exercise is both stimulating for the body and therapeutic in that it can increase energy and invigorate the body. However, don’t expect someone on chemotherapy to want to jump up and go rollerblading or swimming or jogging. More likely they would rather lay in bed with frequent visits to the porcelain throne. Be supportive.
Rest, relaxation, attitude and perspective play a large part in helping the body overcome this type of a disease. There is no point in trying to discover WHY the cancer came to you at this particular time in your life. Your present task is to DEAL with reality in a positive realistic way such that the rest of your life has the best quality that it can have.
Your time needs to be divided into two specific parts now. The first part is devoted to yourself. Heal thyself as the maxim goes. You have family and friends. This is where the second part of your time should be spent. Heal old family wounds, make amends and strike new ground with family and friends. This will have a healing therapeutic effect for you. All the better if you already have good family support and a good circle of friends.
The person with a diagnosis of cancer will go through emotional phases. Getting some advice from the cancer society and getting information on the type of cancer, will help you understand and deal with the stresses more efficiently.
Some advice to the family and friends now. There is often nothing that you can directly do. This does not mean there is nothing for you to do. Searching for various types of cancer cures is probably NOT the best way to spend your time.
You show your love and your friendship by simply being there. Be available and understanding of the tremendous stresses that are now burdening the patient. Contact by E-mail, phone or land mail is sufficient. Offering help in small ways may not be appreciated by the patient in the heated throws of the initial trauma of being presented with the diagnosis, but it will be appreciated later on. So stick in there.

Encouraging healthy living is the most important contributing work that you can do. Researching how to do THAT, is time well spent. But keep in mind that talking to the cancer patient will be very difficult. Their mind is on fear and survival and they likely will not be receptive to someone telling them how to live. What you say may go in one ear and out the other. They have their own priorities now and what you want them to do is not one of those priorities. Don’t get frustrated yourself. Keep researching and ask the patient if they would like any help on anything. Let them talk and give them support. Contact the cancer society for literature on how you can help.
Are there foods or herbs with specific anti-tumour effects? Some foods have been mentioned in the media and scientific literature, however, what you would be doing is asking the food to kill cells that have passed the point of no return, cells that clumped together and created defenses for themselves. Foods just don’t have the power to break into those entrenched defenses. Foods do have the power to hurt your immune system if you eat incorrectly, and they have the power to help your immune system. Finding out which foods do which is the trick. This brings us to the next point of contention.
When confronted with a situation where the body cells have already reached the point of no return (cannot be returned back to normal state that is), the tissues themselves cannot do the job of reversing the tumour. The person will then grasp at anything and everything that may offer some help to them no matter how small that help might be. This is quite normal. Just don’t let it interfered with methods that actually do kill tumour cells.
Thalidomide, for instance, has a potent effect on stopping blood vessel growth. This is so strong an effect that the blood vessels that start out in the fetus to form the limbs, are stopped dead in their tracks. And we know what that causes don’t we? Tumours also need blood vessels and so, if you have just the right kind of tumour, this drug may be of some value. A cancer specialists will help you with the latest drugs.
Food and herbs, on the other hand, are something that medical specialists know very little about. It is hard to keep your head straight with all the conflicting information in the media on foods. Good food never hurts.

Optimal Living
How do we achieve optimal living? The web site OptimalHealthSecrets.Com is dedicated to this task. The present URL to this web site is www.OptimalHealthSecrets.Com. A brief summary here follows.
OptimalHealthSecrets’ Five Factors
1. Spinal Health
This particular factor is not as important to cancer patients as it is to back pain patients.
2. Nutrition
This section is very important to cancer patients.
You will need to clean your body out. Not just the intestines but also the tissues of the body. To do this you will need to adhere to certain principles. These principles can be summarized as follows.
No poison foods
There are ten families of foods that tend to affect pain. These families may also be affecting the body in other ways as well so my recommendation is to avoid all the PRD-Poison-Foods. (PRD = Pain Relief Diet) The Pain Relief Diet is not an anti cancer diet but rather an anti pain diet. However, the principles will work to help the body deal with any disease process.
You can purchase the book by going to www.PainReliefDiet.Com and following the instructions.
Anti oxidants
These are found in fruits and vegetables, especially the peelings.
Anti oxidants affect Cancer and Immune System Function
•
|
Enable DNA to replicate itself perfectly as new cells replace old ones
|
•
|
Boost immune system
|
•
|
Block the formation of nitrosamines and other cancer causing agents
|
•
|
Encourage the full maturation of newly-formed cells.
|
Some nutrients act as antioxidants and others do not.
All of these effects together fight against genetic mutations that can lead to cancer.

Fibre
Hugely important. Get fibre from green leafy vegetables and Psyllium Seed Husks. One tablespoon of Psyllium twice a day.
3. Exercise
Exercise is important to keep the physiology healthy. Good blood flow helps the body fight disease. Exercise relaxes the body and helps reduce stress. Cancer patients may not be able to participate in a full routine and may not even want to exercise at all.
4. R&R, Rest & Relaxation
You may have heard of the cancer patient who watched old TV comedies and claimed to cure his cancer by laughing every day. Relaxation is hard for a cancer patient, but getting the mind side-tracked, can give some welcome relief from the mental stress of this disease.
5. Attitude & Perspective
This ties in with R&R and keeping a positive attitude to something like cancer, that may not be all that bad. Wait until you have all the facts before making decisions. Talk to family and close friends. Read books on attitude and perspective.

Cancer Prevention
The Canadian Cancer Society's Seven Steps to Health
Research continues to show that some cancers can be prevented.
Take these steps now to reduce your risk of developing cancer.
1. Be a non-smoker and avoid second-hand smoke.
2. Eat 5 to 10 servings of vegetables and fruit a day. Choose high fibre, lower fat foods. If you drink alcohol, limit your intake to 1 to 2 drinks a day.
3. Be physically active on a regular basis: This will also help you maintain a healthy body weight.
4. Protect yourself and your family from the sun. Reduce sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Check your skin regularly and report any changes to your doctor.
5. Follow cancer screening guidelines. For women, discuss mammograms, Pap tests, and breast exams with a health professional. For men, discuss testicular exams and prostate screening with a health professional. Both men and women should also discuss screening for colon and rectal cancers.
6. Visit your doctor or dentist if you notice a change in your normal state of health.
7. Follow health and safety instructions both at home and at work when using, storing and disposing of hazardous materials
Harvard Centre for Cancer prevention
What lowers your risk of colon cancer the most?
1. Getting regular screening tests
2. Being more physically active
3. Eating less red meat
4. Taking a multivitamin with folate every day

Flax Seed, Ground stored in fridge or freezer: The recommended amount is 25 grams daily. Flax seed has omega 3 oils, lignans and fibre. All are good.
Omega 3 fish oils: Omega-3 fatty acids from fish and seafood have the ability to suppress the spread of cancer tumours, directly opposing the cancer promoting effect of omega-6 fatty acids found in vegetable oils and corn oils, which is the predominant form of fat consumed in the U.S.
Protein Sources
Use SALMON, RAINBOW TROUT, TUNA, SARDINES, COD, SKINNED CHICKEN AND TURKEY
Avoid the soy and legume-lentil families of foods.

This following site is a site on Alternative Cancer Treatments. Some logic is not scientific but the site does a reasonable job of covering the topic. You will even find the formula for Essiac if you are predisposed to think that way.
There is a list of foods that you should never eat and it is amazing how this list dovetails with the Pain Relief Diet.
The Pain Relief Diet was designed to give relief from pain for a group of reasons, non of which have anything to do with cancer. But it is interesting that most of the PRD-Poison-Foods are on this NEVER EAT list on this site. You will have to scroll down on that site to find the list.

And yet another site on Cancer and food.
