17.  Things you Absolutely Need to Know
Dr. Victor Jean Ouellette June 1999

What type of education do Chiropractic Doctors get?
Chiropractors are highly trained. They write the same basic science exams as medical doctors do in many parts of the world. See article on Chiropractic Education.

chiropractors are considered EXPERT at what they do. Chiropractors are safe and effective. Chiropractic is one of the safest forms of care of health
care around. The reason you don't hear medical doctors mentioning safety and chiropractic is because the chiropractic safety record is far, far better than the medical safety record for the same conditions treated.

How chiropractors work?
Chiropractors will make a diagnosis.
They look for and correct subluxations of your spine. They do this by using
their hands to feel your spine. Different chiropractors have different methods of treatment. Chiropractors will need to treat you several times in a row for effective results.

What exactly does a chiropractor do for patients?
Chiropractors look for subluxations in your spine then treat them by
adjusting them with their hands to make corrections to the positions and
movements of the spinal bones. This is called spinal manipulation.
Some chiropractors call the manipulations, adjustments or corrections.

Does insurance cover chiropractic care?
Some insurance companies now cover chiropractic care from the first visit.

Will it hurt?
No. Chiropractic care is generally pain free.
How much will it cost?
That will depend on what part of the country you live in, how severe your problems are, how long you have left it before seeking treatment, how much degeneration you already have, and several other factors. Generally it would cost several hundred dollars for effective chiropractic care. However, as the saying goes, "When you need the care, then you need the care."
